Elk Viewing Sleigh/Carriage Ride, Gourmet Dinner & Wine Tasting
Northern Michigan is the place to be during the beautiful days of Summer. Enjoy Thunder Bay's horse drawn carriage ride. Travel through the resort and cross the Thunder Bay River to see newborn calves and world class bull elk in velvet. It's magical to see such large antlers in velvet this close up! Culinary Artist and co-owner Jan Matthias will regale you with a full five (5) course gourmet dinner cooked before you on two antique wood cook stoves and served in an impeccable setting. From apple/pear crepes to white chocolate mousse filled pizzels it’s guaranteed to be a gourmand’s delight. While your meal is almost done, Jack Matthias, the other half, and Jan amuse you with stories about their family and how this all started. Before your last cup of cherry coffee you feel like part of the family. All too quickly it’s time for the short ride back to the clubhouse or to your deluxe accommodations. Winter's white blanket, proud evergreens and Thunder Bay's horse drawn sleigh ride invite you to cuddle up as you travel through our Northern Woods. From the sleighs, you will view bull elk with world-class antlers. What a natural beauty! Warm up in front of the split stone fireplace inside the Elk Antler Log Cabin as Jan prepares your gourmet feast. Fall brings special beauty to the North Woods. Enjoy maples and stately evergreens. About the Elk Viewing, Gourmet DinnerCheck out our "Step back in time to life on the frontier. You begin by boarding a horse drawn carriage or sleigh that will take you through the wooded resort and away from the daily hustle and bustle. A wooden bridge takes you over the Thunder Bay River and into the Elk Preserve. Here you will get an up close look at majestic bull elk. Bring your camera as you'll have ample opportunity to snap some pictures. Enjoy the scenery, the smell of pine, and the ever changing face of the Thunder Bay River as the horses make their way deep in the woods to the beautiful Elk Antler Log Cabin. A blazing fire in a massive split stone fireplace welcomes you. The riverside cabin is decorated in period antiques and trophy mounts. Wonderful aromas mix with the scent of hardwood smoke and emanate from two antique wood cook stoves in full view. This elegant cabin maintains its rustic appearance while providing every amenity. Warm yourself by the fire, enjoy something from the bar and savor the delicious aromas put forth by the twin antique wood cook stoves as culinary artist Jan Matthias and her staff prepare your gourmet meal. Throughout your dinner you will sample five to seven as attentive servers see to your every need." 
This event is different and fabulous in every season. During summer marvel at the bulls' antlers in Velvet. Through summer these antlers are growing up to an inch a day. You may also get a peek at a new elk calf. Throughout the fall rut see the bulls spar and strut. Hear them bugle. Its awesome. Snuggle up as winter brings a charming and romantic flavor to the event with the snowy woods and the chilly air.
